Practical, checked-locally answers for planning your visit.
The Globe is the bar, restaurant and bakery in the square at the heart of Laugharne, and every walk in this guide finishes right beside it. If you're hungry, thirsty or footsore, it's the natural place to rest at the end of a walk — a coffee, a bite to eat, or fresh bread from the bakery. (Menus, opening hours and prices aren't listed here — pop in and see.)
Every walk in this guide starts from the Grist, the large open car park in the middle of Laugharne, on The Strand below the castle. The far end, toward the estuary, can flood on the highest tides, so on a big tide it's best to park nearer the road.
The Grist is the big car park in the middle of Laugharne and the best place to park, with the most room. It costs a small amount, payable at the machine. There is also some free on-street parking around the town, but the Grist is the easiest.
There are public toilets in Laugharne on Wogan Street, with an accessible toilet, a short walk up from the Grist car park.
Four walks all start at the Grist and finish beside the Globe: A Turn Around the Town (about fifteen minutes, flat), Laugharne in an Hour (about an hour), The Estuary Side (about an hour and a half), and The Whole Town (the full circuit, about two and a half to three hours).
The estuary sands are tidal and the water can come in fast. Enjoy the shore from the paths, the quay and the castle above, and don't walk out onto the sands. It's worth checking the tide before an estuary walk.
The walks follow old streets, a churchyard climb and the estuary cliff path, so they aren't step-free and no accessibility has been formally audited. A Turn Around the Town is the flattest option; the estuary and Sir John's Hill sections are steep in places.
Dogs on leads are welcome on the town and estuary walks; please keep them under control near the churchyard and grazing land.
